Service Advertising Protocol (SAP): A NetWare protocol used to identify the services and addresses of servers attached to the network. When a server starts, it uses the protocol to advertise its service. When the same server goes offline, it uses the protocol to announce that it is no longer available. NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol (NWLink) uses SAP to locate NetWare servers and services.
