application directory partition: An Active Directory directory partition that stores application-specific data that can be dynamic (subject to Time to Live restrictions). Application directory partitions can store any type of object except security principals and are not replicated to the global catalog. The replication scope of an application directory partition can be configured to include any set of domain controllers in the forest.
